I have decided to do my multi-genre project on Facebook. When thinking about Facebook, the first thing that may pop up in you mind maybe, socializing. Even though that is true about Facebook, it also contains many information about things in the world. For example, the latest fashion style, top selling items, information of people, etc.
What led me into researching Facebook was the time when all these questions overwhelmed my mind. Who came up with the idea of Facebook? When was it created? How did this become so popular? The more questions the came into my mind the more I became curious. The more curious I was the more passionate I became and it motivated me severely to research about it.
What inspires me the most about Facebook is the way how it was created. In 2004, when Facebook was “born”, it was created by a group of college students who included Mark Zuckerberg who is CEO of Facebook today. But the goal of the small college group was to create a website for students at Hartford to get to know more about each other. As time goes by, and Facebook becomes a company, it works it's way to where it is today. With teamwork which is the key to many things the company is now worth for a great amount of money.
During the time when Mark Zuckerberg invests in Facebook, there were important decisions that he made for the company. For example, there was a time during the early start of Facebook where Yahoo offered to buy Facebook for a great amount of money. But Mark Zuckerberg declined and many people thought he was crazy. But what also inspired me was how he did not care what the others thought of him whether being crazy or dumb, but instead he kept going his own way. With this kind of attitude, Mark Zuckerberg helped Facebook survive till this day. With the attitude he puts in his work it motivates me to do the same where there are some decisions where others may not agree with but sticking with what you believe is right will always be the right choice.
Even though I go on Facebook a lot I never thought that it would become a research topic. After researching it, it changed the way I thought about Facebook because at first thinking it was just a social media. But now after the research, I know that for one fact Facebook is used so much for information that data collectors say more people go on Facebook than Google for searching things.
